About SquareBySquare

SquareBySquare is an environmental technology startup enabling individuals and organisations to purchase small parcels of rainforest land to protect biodiversity and offset ecological footprints. We are developing a digital platform to manage land parcels, engage customers, and build global partnerships.

Position Purpose

The ICT Business Analyst will work across strategy, operations, and technology delivery to ensure the SquareBySquare platform meets business and customer needs. The role requires strong analytical capability, the ability to gather and translate requirements into functional specifications, and the creativity to drive an end-to-end product launch in a startup environment. As SquareBySquare scales internationally, this role is central to ensuring our digital systems are fit for purpose and aligned with regulatory and market requirements in both Australia and Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with stakeholders to investigate, analyse, and document business requirements for digital platform features and enhancements.
  • Translate business needs into functional and technical specifications for developers.
  • Use process mapping and workflow documentation to identify inefficiencies and recommend solutions.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, gap analysis, and system evaluations to support decision-making.
  • Support the design, development, and integration of systems by liaising with external developers and technology partners, including blockchain and GIS vendors, across multiple time zones.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT), including coordinating testing with distributed development teams and ensuring issues are resolved in line with project timelines.
  • Analyse customer and marketing data, conduct A/B testing, and prepare insights to guide digital campaigns and product strategy.
  • Prepare clear and professional documentation including business cases, user stories, system manuals, training guides, and bilingual communications (German/English).
  • Deliver presentations and contribute to partnership negotiations, representing the business at events and with international stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the creative execution of the product including production of digital content, web assets, and customer-facing materials.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant data privacy, GDPR, security, and ESG reporting standards.

 

Skill & Experience

Selection Criteria (Skills & Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in business analysis, system specification, and process improvement.
  • Strong skills in requirements gathering, stakeholder management, and documentation.
  • Proven ability to deliver presentations and communicate complex information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with:
  • – Notion for workflow and project management
  • – Google Workspace for collaboration and reporting
  • – Python for Google Sheets automation and analysis
  • – HTML/CSS for prototyping and lightweight system adjustments
  • – Blockchain technologies for digital asset verification and tracking
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Native-level German, essential for engaging with European partners, NGOs, and corporate clients. Additional European languages, particularly French or Spanish, are advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in startups, conservation, or sustainability-driven organisations highly desirable.

Salary & Conditions

  • Full-time position at pre-revenue startup, $80,000 to $90,000 pa, plus equity in business.
  • Reports directly to the Founder & CEO.
  • Based in Sydney, with occasional national and international travel required.
