Job Description

Cenzo’s Cafe and Bar in Upper Mt Gravatt are seeking a talented and experienced Chef to join our team. The Chef will be responsible for leading kitchen operations, menu planning, food preparation, and ensuring high standards of food quality and presentation. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate a team.

Availability Requirements:

Looking for candidates available to work morning shifts on: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise kitchen staff and provide guidance, training, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee all aspects of food preparation, ensuring adherence to recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards.
  • Plan and develop menus, incorporating seasonal ingredients, culinary trends, and guest preferences.
  • Manage inventory levels, including ordering supplies, monitoring stock levels, and minimizing waste.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment.
  • Monitor food costs and labor costs, implementing strategies to control expenses and maximize profitability.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement policies and procedures to improve kitchen efficiency and performance.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate innovative ideas into menu development.
  • Maintain effective communication with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless coordination of food service.
  • Foster a positive work culture based on teamwork, respect, and excellence, promoting employee morale and retention.
  • Conduct regular kitchen meetings and training sessions to reinforce standards, procedures, and expectations.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed, such as rostering, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating culinary expertise, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence in all aspects of the job.

 

Skill & Experience

Experience Required:
2–3 years of relevant work experience required for this role.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience working as a Chef in a high-volume restaurant or hotel kitchen.
  • Culinary degree or equivalent certification from a recognized culinary institution.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Excellent culinary skills, with a deep understanding of cooking techniques, flavor profiles, and ingredient combinations.
  • Creative flair and passion for culinary innovation, with the ability to develop unique and memorable menu offerings.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations, with a commitment to upholding standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff and management.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
