Job Description

About the role

This is a hands-on retail management role in a busy supermarket environment.

You will be responsible for organising and controlling daily store operations, supervising staff, maintaining stock levels and service standards, supporting purchasing and promotions, monitoring store performance and ensuring compliance with company procedures, food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include:

  • Manage daily supermarket operations, including staff supervision, customer service, stock control, merchandising, cash handling and store presentation.
  • Maintain appropriate product mix, stock levels and service standards based on customer demand, sales performance and product movement.
  • Monitor sales, stock turnover, product availability, wastage and shrinkage, and take steps to improve store performance.
  • Assist with purchasing, stock ordering, supplier communication and replenishment planning.
  • Implement merchandising and promotional strategies, including product displays, pricing updates and seasonal promotions.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock levels, inventory checks, cash handling, financial transactions and shift handovers.
  • Supervise, train and support staff, including allocating duties, monitoring performance and ensuring procedures are followed.
  • Assist with rostering, break planning and shift coverage.
  • Manage customer enquiries, complaints and service issues professionally.
  • Support budgeting and financial control by monitoring labour use, stock loss, wastage and daily trading results.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety, food safety, responsible service of alcohol requirements and company policies.
  • Communicate clearly with senior management, department supervisors, staff and suppliers.

Skill & Experience

To be successful, you will have:

  • Previous experience as a Retail Manager, Store Manager, or similar role in a supermarket, grocery or retail environment.
  • Strong knowledge of retail operations, including stock control, ordering, merchandising, staff supervision, cash handling and customer service.
  • Ability to supervise staff, allocate duties, manage performance and support training.
  • Good understanding of sales performance, stock turnover, wastage control and service standards.
  • Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy retail environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to store standards, safety and compliance.
  • Professional presentation, reliability and a genuine interest in grocery retail.

Qualifications and experience

  • A relevant Diploma or higher qualification in retail management, business, management or a related field will be highly regarded.
  • In lieu of a formal qualification, Applicants with at least three years of relevant retail management experience may also be considered.
