Job Description

This position is responsible for planning and coordinating crop production from soil preparation through to harvest and market delivery. It covers growing operations, farm infrastructure, staff/contractor supervision, production records, climate risk and work health and safety processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate production and marketing of crops, including fruit and nuts, vegetables, turf and flowers, from soil preparation to harvest while taking environmental and market factors into account.
  • Select and plant seeds, seedlings and bulbs, and graft new varieties to root stocks.
  • Maintain crop production by cultivating, de-budding and pruning, and by maintaining optimal growing conditions.
  • Organise and conduct farming operations including collecting, storing, grading and packaging produce, and organising sale, purchase and dispatch of produce.
  • Direct and oversee general farming activities such as fertilising and pest and weed control.
  • Maintain farm buildings, fences, equipment and water supply systems.
  • Maintain and evaluate records of farming activities, monitor market activity, and plan crop preparation and production to meet contract requirements and market demand.
  • Manage business capital, including budgeting, taxation, debt and loan management.
  • Select, train and supervise staff and contractors where required.
  • Develop climate risk management strategies.
  • Manage work health and safety processes.
  • Planting of crops (by hand and machine driven)
  • Harvesting of crops (by hand and machine assisted)
  • Weeding

Skill & Experience

The following requirements are reproduced from the position Job Description:

  • relevant AQF Certificate III or Certificate IV qualifications or equivalent; or

 

  • 3 years employment experience as a Horticulture Grower with relevant formal training; or

 

  • 5 years employment experience as a Horticulture Grower with no formal training.
