About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and qualified Diesel Motor Mechanic to join our team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor/Foreman, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and testing diesel engines and related mechanical components across trucks, buses and semi-trailers. Key Responsibilities

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Diagnose faults in motor vehicles, engines and drivelines
  • Raise vehicles using hydraulic hoists or jacks
  • Dismantle or remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and check parts
  • Repair or replace worn or defective parts, and reassemble mechanical components
  • Test and adjust repaired sub-assemblies and re-install them
  • Service or overhaul engines, and carry out repair and maintenance as per manufacturer’s requirements
  • Tune engines to achieve smoother running and ensure compliance with pollution regulations
  • Service, diagnose and repair brake systems, transmissions and gearboxes
  • Service and repair suspension systems
  • Service and repair final drives, and carry out all major and minor repairs
  • Re-line and adjust brakes and align wheels
  • Change oil and filters, and lubricate vehicles or fuelled motor appliances
  • Inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates, or detail work required to achieve roadworthiness
  • Report directly to the Workshop Supervisor/Foreman on completed repair orders
  • Apply safe working practices and adhere to all OH&S, environmental, quality and compliance procedures

Skill & Experience

Qualifications & Experience
  • Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (or equivalent trade qualification), and/or a minimum of 5 years’ relevant industry experience
  • Proven experience repairing and maintaining trucks, buses and semi-trailers
  • Sound knowledge of engine, electrical, transmission, steering, suspension and braking systems
  • Welding experience (oxy-acetylene, MIG, manual arc) highly regarded
  • Full understanding of and commitment to Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Compliance procedures
  • A punctual, honest and reliable team player with strong attention to detail
