Carpenter – Ceiling & Lightweight Framing Specialist

Kogan People Solutions, recruiters, are working with a successful construction business delivering projects across metropolitan Melbourne. With a strong pipeline of work, our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Carpenter with particular expertise in ceiling and lightweight framing systems to join their team on a full-time and ongoing basis.

  • Location / Work Base: Truganina, Victoria, with work at project sites across metropolitan Melbourne
  • Salary: $80,000 to $90,000 plus superannuation per annum
  • Tenure: Full time and ongoing

About the role

This is a hands-on carpentry position involving the construction, installation, modification, and repair of both timber and lightweight steel framing systems across commercial and residential construction projects.

The role has a particular focus on ceiling and lightweight framing, including suspended and direct-fix ceiling systems, wall framing, architectural bulkheads and supporting frameworks required for plasterboard and ceiling lining installation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret architectural drawings, reflected ceiling plans and specifications and accurately set out ceiling, wall, bulkhead and framing works.
  • Select and prepare materials, and measure, mark, cut, shape and assemble timber and lightweight steel framing components.
  • Construct and install suspended, direct-fix and laser-batten ceiling framing systems, including channels, battens, hangers and associated supports.
  • Construct lightweight steel and timber wall framing, perimeter framing and stud and batten walls.
  • Set out and construct architectural bulkheads, ceiling transitions, recessed areas, curved or shaped sections and other detailed ceiling features.
  • Install timber blocking, plywood backing and additional framing required to support fixtures, fittings and other building components.
  • Install, secure and adjust framing systems to specified levels and dimensions, ensuring completed work is level, plumb, square and correctly aligned.
  • Modify, repair or replace existing timber, lightweight steel, ceiling and wall framing as required.
  • Inspect and rectify completed framing before handover for plasterboard, ceiling lining and subsequent trades.
  • Coordinate framing activities with supervisors, builders and other trades.
  • Safely use carpentry hand and power tools, laser equipment and access equipment and complete work in accordance with drawings, specifications, relevant standards and site safety requirements.

Skill & Experience

  • Qualified to Cert IV or agreed equivalent, and all necessary cards
  • At least 12 months’ relevant professional work experience as a Carpenter or in a closely related field.
  • Relevant practical experience in carpentry, particularly ceiling and lightweight framing systems working with both timber and lightweight steel framing
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings, construction details and specifications.
  • Competence using carpentry hand and power tools, laser levels and associated construction equipment.
  • Eye for detail.
