About the Role:
As a key professional within our Technical Department, the Geotechnical Design Engineer focuses primarily on high-quality technical design, safety, and the delivery of ground improvement engineering projects. Additionally, this role supports regional growth by assisting with preliminary tender design, maintaining client relationships, and contributing to the business development and tendering pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
Core Technical & Engineering Duties:
-Design Excellence: Design and review geotechnical/ground improvement projects using advanced soil mechanics and structural interaction principles.
-Risk & Quality: Participate in internal design reviews and Safety in Design (SiD) risk assessments; ensure strict QMS compliance.
-Site & Handover Support: Monitor construction sites for design conformance. Prepare technical documentation for seamless tender handover meetings.
Proposal, Tendering & Cost Analysis Support:
-Tender Analysis: Organize tender packages (geotechnical reports, criteria) to engineer optimal technical proposals.
-Preliminary Design: Collaborate with Design and Regional teams to establish solution configurations within project constraints.
-Costing & Proposals: Assist with detailed cost studies (productivities, materials, supplier logistics) and contribute to final proposal/offer letters.
Business Development & Industry Engagement:
-Client & Brand Promotion: Promote ground improvement tech and build strong professional rapport with clients, developers, and consultants.
-Market Intelligence: Gather lead data and attend networking/technical events to elevate the brand profile.
-Pipeline Support: Maintain and update CRM/tendering platforms (Salesforce, EstimateOne) to track active opportunities.
Team Collaboration & Leadership (Senior Level):
-Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff to support their KPI performance.
Skill & Experience
-Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience (or 6+ years for Senior/Lead tracks) in geotechnical engineering, with a strong focus on ground improvement/reinforcement technologies.
-Education: Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering and/or Geotechnical Engineering (a Master’s Degree or PhD is advantageous).
-Technical Proficiency: Sound working knowledge of standard geotechnical analysis and modelling software (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE-W) and basic AutoCAD.
-Specialised Methods: Knowledge of or exposure to Menard techniques such as Controlled Modulus Columns (CMCs), Jet Grouting, Stone Columns, Soil Mixing, and Dynamic Compaction is highly desirable.
-Commercial & Communication Skills: Robust written and verbal communication skills for technical report writing. A well-developed sense of engineering risk and a solid understanding of tendering/estimation processes.
-Qualifications: Chartered Professional Engineer status (CPEng) and/or Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is highly advantageous.
-Work Authorisation: Must be an Australian Citizen, permanent resident, or have valid full working rights in Australia.
