The Role

Bylaser is seeking an experienced Metal Machinist (First Class) – Laser Cutting Operator to join its production team. The successful candidate will set up and operate metal cutting machinery, manufacture precision metal components and ensure finished products meet required specifications and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate laser cutting and other metal-processing machinery.
  • Cut and shape mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other metal materials.
  • Review job specifications, drawings and production instructions.
  • Select and adjust machine settings according to material and job requirements.
  • Prepare and position materials for machining and production.
  • Produce components to required dimensions, tolerances and specifications.
  • Monitor machine operations and make adjustments where required.
  • Inspect materials and finished components for accuracy and quality.
  • Use appropriate measuring equipment to check dimensions and finished work.
  • Identify machine or production issues and undertake basic troubleshooting.
  • Carry out routine machine checks and report maintenance requirements.
  • Follow production schedules, quality procedures and workplace safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe work environment.
  • Work effectively with production and fabrication team members.

What We’re Looking For

  • Relevant trade qualification in machining, engineering, metal manufacturing or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience operating laser cutting, CNC or metal-processing machinery.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and job specifications.
  • Good mechanical aptitude, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with Bystronic or similar laser equipment is highly regarded.
