AUTOMOTIVE MOTOR MECHANIC; PRESTON VIC 3072 & MADDINGLEY VIC 3340

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Automotive Motor Mechanic to join our busy workshop. The role includes workshop-based duties, mobile mechanical repairs and on-site vehicle inspections in Preston workshop and Maddingley workshop.

About you

  • Relevant automotive mechanical qualification
  • Previous experience as a motor mechanic
  • Experience performing mobile mechanical repairs and vehicle inspections
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Ability to work independently at mobile job sites
  • Good knowledge of petrol and diesel vehicles
  • Experience using automotive scan tools and workshop equipment
  • Good communication and customer-service skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Current Australian driver licence

Key Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – WORKSHOP MOTOR MECHANIC

  • Carry out logbook servicing and scheduled vehicle maintenance.
  • Perform comprehensive vehicle inspections and safety checks.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic vehicle faults.
  • Use diagnostic scan tools and workshop equipment correctly.
  • Repair and replace engines, transmissions, clutches and driveline components.
  • Inspect and repair braking, steering and suspension systems.
  • Diagnose and repair oil, coolant and transmission-fluid leaks.
  • Repair cooling systems, including radiators, water pumps and thermostats.
  • Replace timing belts, drive belts, alternators and starter motors.
  • Test batteries, charging systems and starting systems.
  • Inspect tyres and perform puncture repairs, rotations, balancing and replacements.
  • Carry out mobile mechanical repairs and on-site vehicle inspections when required.
  • Road-test vehicles before and after repairs.
  • Prepare accurate inspection reports, repair quotations and workshop job notes.
  • Record all faults, work performed, parts used and further recommendations.
  • Explain vehicle faults and recommended repairs clearly to customers.
  • Obtain customer approval before completing additional repairs.
  • Complete work within allocated labour times.
  • Maintain workshop tools and equipment in safe working condition.
  • Keep the workshop and work areas clean and organised.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures.
  • Ensure all repairs are completed safely and to a high professional standard.

Skill & Experience

  • Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or an equivalent automotive qualification.
  • Previous experience working as an Automotive Motor Mechanic.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical and electronic diagnostic skills.
  • Experience performing logbook servicing and comprehensive vehicle inspections.
  • Ability to diagnose faults using modern automotive scan tools.
  • Experience repairing engines, transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension systems.
  • Knowledge of petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles is preferred.
  • Experience with tyres, wheel balancing and basic wheel alignments.
  • Ability to perform mobile mechanical repairs and on-site inspections when required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team.
  • Good time-management skills and ability to meet allocated labour times.
  • Clear communication and customer-service skills.
  • Good understanding of workshop safety procedures.
  • Ability to prepare accurate inspection reports and workshop job notes.
  • Current Australian driver licence.
  • Australian working rights.
