Cook (Full-Time)

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Food Preparation

  • Prepare and cook a range of Indian, Italian, Indochinese and modern Australian dishes.
  • Prepare ingredients, sauces, marinades, curries, pasta, and accompaniments according to recipes.
  • Cook food using grilling, frying, roasting, baking and other commercial cooking methods.
  • Portion and present meals to maintain quality, consistency and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure all food is prepared within service timeframes.

Kitchen Operations

  • Set up and organise kitchen workstations before service.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic work area throughout each shift.
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with daily kitchen cleaning and end-of-shift procedures.
  • Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient service during busy periods.

Key Responsibilities

Food Safety & Stock Control

  • Comply with all food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Store food correctly and monitor stock rotation using FIFO principles.
  • Assist with receiving, checking and storing deliveries.
  • Monitor ingredient levels and report stock shortages to the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager.
  • Minimise food wastage through correct preparation, storage and portion control.

Teamwork

  • Work cooperatively with chefs, cooks and kitchen hands.
  • Assist with training new kitchen staff where required.
  • Follow instructions from the Chef and contribute to efficient kitchen operations.
  • Maintain effective communication with front-of-house and kitchen staff during service.

Skill & Experience

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum two years’ experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
  • Experience preparing Indian, Italian, Indochinese and modern Australian cuisine.
  • Sound knowledge of pasta preparation, sauces, curries, grilling and frying techniques.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Good understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements.
  • Strong teamwork, communication and time management skills.

 

Qualifications

  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification.
  • Equivalent industry experience may also be considered.
