Full Time Horticulture Grower

Salary

AUD $85,000–$90,000 per annum plus Superannuation, depending on skills and experience.

 

About us:

NVD Fresh Produce Pty Ltd is a family-owned agricultural enterprise based in Walkaway, Western Australia, approximately 30 minutes from Geraldton. We operate approximately 4.2 hectares of plastic greenhouses in Walkaway and an additional 2 hectares of plastic greenhouses at the family’s original farm.

We are currently expanding our operations, having purchased 60 acres of land near Walkaway to support future growth and long-term sustainability. NVD Fresh Produce specialises in intensive greenhouse cultivation and is progressively diversifying its crop range, recognising crop rotation as a key strategy to preserve soil health, improve productivity, and maintain consistent supply.

The business is focused on strengthening its production capacity, improving operational systems and water management practices, and establishing a scalable and sustainable structure to support ongoing expansion within Western Australia’s fresh produce market.

The successful applicant will play an important role in supporting the continued growth and success of NVD Fresh Produce’s farming operations.

Position Summary

The Horticulture Grower is responsible for planning, coordinating and carrying out vegetable crop production activities across NVD Fresh Produce’s greenhouse and farming operations. The role supports efficient and sustainable crop production by managing crop establishment, cultivation, irrigation, fertiliser application, pest and disease control, harvesting activities, and maintaining high standards of crop quality, productivity and workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities

Crop Production Planning

  • Plan and coordinate vegetable crop production from soil preparation through to harvesting, taking into account production requirements and seasonal conditions.
  • Select seeds, seedlings and planting materials and oversee crop establishment.

Crop Management

  • Maintain crop production through cultivation, pruning, irrigation, fertiliser application and crop nutrition programs.
  • Monitor crop health and implement pest, disease and weed management strategies to optimise crop quality and yield.

Harvesting and Production Operations

  • Organise harvesting, grading, storage and packaging activities.
  • Assist in coordinating the storage, grading, packaging and dispatch of fresh produce.
  • Monitor production schedules to meet customer and market requirements.
  • Assist in achieving production targets to meet customer requirements and market demand.

Farm Operations

  • Assist in maintaining farm buildings, fencing, irrigation systems, equipment and water supply infrastructure.
  • Maintain production records and monitor crop performance.
  • Support planning activities to improve production efficiency and sustainability.

Workplace Safety and Team Support

  • Comply with workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Assist in training and supporting farm employees where required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across farming operations.

Skill & Experience

Qualifications and Skills

Applicants should possess one of the following:

  • A relevant AQF Certificate III or Certificate IV qualification (or equivalent); or
  • At least 3 years’ relevant employment experience in commercial horticultural production together with relevant formal training; or
  • At least 5 years’ relevant employment experience in commercial horticultural production where no relevant formal training is held.

In addition, applicants should demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of vegetable production, irrigation, fertiliser application, pest, disease and weed management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a commercial horticultural production environment.
  • Ability to follow work instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Current driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one will be highly regarded.
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety
