Job Title: Retail Manager
Salary range: $79,500 – $85,000

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is an acclaimed artisan bakery built on craftsmanship, community, and conscious hospitality. With a loyal following and reputation for exceptional product and genuine connection, they are seeking a hands-on Retail Manager to lead one of their high-profile market venues.

This is a leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, sensory environment—where a market stall carries the same warmth and intention as a fine dining room. You’ll have genuine autonomy to shape the customer experience, develop your team, and drive profitability. If you lead with empathy and pride in operational excellence, this is for you.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations & Financial Control

  • Manage venue operations including rostering, purchasing, and cost of goods, ensuring budget and sustainability targets are met.
  • Flex labour hours dynamically in response to real-time business and weather conditions.
  • Oversee stock control, invoice accuracy, and wastage reduction through proactive management.
  • Conduct quality checks and resolve defects before product reaches customers.
  • Identify operational improvements and collaborate with production and quality assurance teams.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and inspire a team of up to 20+, fostering warmth, accountability and shared purpose.
  • Manage the full performance cycle-onboarding, feedback, training, and career progression.
  • Handle performance matters confidently and compassionately, in line with Fair Work standards.
  • Participate in recruitment, ensuring new hires align with the brand’s values and service ethos.
  • Champion change and ensure the team is equipped and motivated to adapt.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Experience & Brand Leadership

  • Embody genuine, unhurried hospitality; ensure every guest interaction reflects warmth and appreciation.
  • Resolve customer complaints with discretion and follow-through.
  • Brief the team daily on service standards, product knowledge, and experience expectations.
  • Act as the ‘voice’ of the brand within the venue, ensuring consistency in tone, behavior and presentation.

Safety, Hygiene & Food Quality

  • Maintain a zero-harm environment by enforcing safe work practices and conducting hazard reviews.
  • Ensure full compliance with HACCP, GMP and personal hygiene standards across all food handling and dispatch.
  • Conduct routine product protection checks and support the broader Quality Agenda.

Administration & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate filing and communication systems for senior leadership, HR and product teams.
  • Track colleagues leave balances to ensure coverage without compromising service or budget.
  • Follow up on non-compliance issues promptly and escalate where required.

Skill & Experience

  • Proven min 1 year experience in retail, hospitality, or venue management.
  • Strong financial acumen—rostering, COGS, and budget control.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop diverse teams in high-volume environments.
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable giving feedback, managing conflict, and facilitating change.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays across multiple market locations.
  • Physically capable standing for long periods, lifting up to 15kg, working in varying weather conditions.

WHY JOIN?

  • Respected, independent Australian brand known for quality and heart.
  • Genuine career development and mentorship opportunities.
  • Work with exceptional product in a setting that values tradition and innovation.
  • Competitive salary + benefits.
