Duties and Responsibilities

The successful Fitter will be responsible for:

– Completing mechanical alignments using digital alignment equipment and reverse indicators.
– Dismantling, inspecting, repairing and reassembling fixed plant machinery.
– Rebuilding and overhauling pumps, compressors and production equipment.
– Overhauling slurry pumps, water pumps and other mechanical pumping systems.
– Maintaining and repairing conveyor belt systems.
– Undertaking maintenance and repairs on flotation systems and thickener tanks.
– Installing and fitting mechanical components in accordance with specifications.
– Performing engineering measurements and calculations.
– Using precision measurement instruments, including micrometres, dial indicators and gauges.
– Reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, manuals and maintenance documentation.
– Diagnosing mechanical faults and identifying suitable repair solutions.
– Planning and organising daily work activities and maintenance schedules.
– Safely operating hand tools, power tools and specialised fitting equipment.
– Providing on-the-job training and guidance to other employees.
– Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area.

To Be a Successful Applicant, You Will Need

– A relevant trade qualification as a Fitter, Mechanical Fitter or in a closely related trade.
– An overseas equivalent qualification will also be considered.
– A minimum of three years of relevant experience as a fitter or in a related mechanical role.
– Proven experience rebuilding, overhauling and installing fixed plant machinery and mechanical components.
– Experience maintaining pumps, conveyor systems, flotation systems and/or thickener tanks.
– Experience completing mechanical alignments using digital alignment equipment.
– Proficiency in using precision measurement instruments.
– The ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals and specifications.
– Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
– Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to workplace safety.
