Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $79,500 plus superannuation (depending on experience)

Due to continued business growth, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Cook to join our kitchen team.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Prepare and cook a wide range of authentic Kerala, South Indian and North Indian dishes, including Malabar biryanis, seafood specialties, curries, appam, puttu, idiyappam, Kerala parotta, tandoori items, Indian breads and traditional vegetarian dishes.
  • Cook authentic recipes using traditional spice blends, regional ingredients and established cooking techniques to ensure consistency in taste and presentation.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Monitor food quality, presentation, portion control and consistency across all menu items to ensure high standards are maintained.
  • Coordinate daily kitchen operations to ensure efficient food preparation and timely service during busy operating periods.
  • Manage stock levels, source quality ingredients, place orders and minimise food wastage through effective inventory control.
  • Receive, inspect and store food supplies in accordance with food safety and stock rotation procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety legislation, hygiene regulations and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen environment in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Prepare meals in accordance with customer dietary requirements and special requests where applicable.
  • Inspect and maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance requirements to ensure uninterrupted kitchen operations.
  • Assist in training and supervising junior kitchen staff on food preparation techniques, kitchen procedures and food safety practices.
  • Collaborate with management to develop new menu offerings, monitor food costing, improve operational efficiency and enhance customer satisfaction.

Skill & Experience

Essential Requirements

  • AQF Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent qualification), or at least three years of relevant experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing authentic Indian cuisine is essential.
  • Proven ability to prepare traditional regional dishes using authentic ingredients, spice blends and cooking techniques while maintaining consistency and quality.
  • Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements applicable to commercial kitchens.
  • Experience managing kitchen operations, inventory control, food costing and minimising food wastage.
  • Strong organisational, communication and time management skills with the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • A commitment to delivering exceptional food quality and customer satisfaction.
