Job Description

Hayfields Racing, is seeking two experienced Horse Trainers to join their team in Tynong, VIC 3813. The successful candidates will assist with the daily care, training and preparation of racehorses, while maintaining high standards of horse welfare and stable operations.

Hayfields Racing is a professional thoroughbred racing stable based in Victoria, Australia, operating from the world-class Pakenham Racing Complex. The stable is committed to excellence in horse training, welfare, and performance, providing high-quality care and development programs for racehorses while maintaining a strong reputation within the Australian racing industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train and prepare racehorses for racing and trials through structured exercise, conditioning and development programs.
  • Assess horses’ fitness, performance and behaviour, and adjust training schedules to maximise racing potential.
  • Must be proficient in riding all levels of racehorses, including timed gallops, pace work, trackwork and barrier work.
  • Supervise and participate in daily horse exercise, handling, grooming and stable routines.
  • Monitor horse health, soundness and wellbeing, and liaise with veterinarians, farriers and other equine professionals as required.
  • Maintain training records, fitness reports and racing preparations for each horse.
  • Oversee feeding, nutrition and recovery programs to support horse performance and welfare.
  • Prepare horses for race meetings, barrier trials, jump-outs and official trackwork sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with racing industry rules, workplace health and safety requirements, and animal welfare standards.

Skill & Experience

All applicants must have a minimum of two years of full-time professional experience as a Horse Trainer or in a closely related role. Applicants should have practical experience in horse training, care and stable operations. A relevant qualification in horse training, racing or equine studies would also be highly regarded.
