About This Role:
Are you an experienced grower with a passion for sustainable and high-quality crop production? Our client is seeking a skilled Protected Cropping Grower to oversee the cultivation, harvest, and marketing of premium crops in a controlled environment. This role requires expertise in managing all stages of production while ensuring optimal yield, quality, and environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement seasonal growing schedules, considering market trends, environmental factors, and contract requirements to maximise productivity and profitability.
  • Select high-quality seeds, seedlings, and bulbs, and perform grafting techniques to cultivate superior plant varieties.
  • Monitor and maintain ideal climate, irrigation, and nutrition levels within protected cropping systems, including pruning, de-budding, and crop training to ensure healthy growth.
  • Organise the collection, grading, packaging, and storage of produce while ensuring compliance with quality standards and market specifications.
  • Arrange the purchase, sale, and dispatch of produce, liaising with suppliers, buyers, and logistics providers to meet delivery schedules.
  • Direct fertilisation, pest, and weed control programs, ensuring sustainable and efficient farming practices.
  • Oversee the upkeep of greenhouses, irrigation systems, farm machinery, and other facilities to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain detailed production records, evaluate performance data, and adjust strategies to align with market demand and contractual obligations.
  • Select, train, and supervise farm workers and contractors to maintain high productivity and safety standards.

Skill & Experience

  • Proven experience in protected cropping, preferably with high-value crops.
  • Strong knowledge of hydroponics, fertigation, and climate control systems.
  • Familiarity with food safety standards (HACCP, GAP) and sustainable farming practices.
  • Leadership experience with a focus on team training and operational efficiency.
  • Relevant qualification – Cert III or higher in this specific field.
