Position Title: Chef

Employer: Hecho En Mexico

Location: Fitzroy, Melbourne, VIC

Salary: $80,000 – $90,000 per year + Superannuation

Position Type: Full-time-Permanent

We offer a unique dining experience focused on freshly prepared, made-to order dishes, prepared from scratch with high-quality ingredients. We are dedicated to providing a full-service dining experience to our guests, ensuring culinary excellence at every stage. We take pride in using only the freshest quality ingredients for creating our selection of Mexican dishes, including our in-house made fresh salsas, guacamole, and marinades, entrees and desserts. The menu is kid-friendly and designed to offer gluten-free and vegan options. Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and experienced Chef to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in preparing traditional Mexican dishes and will be integral to maintaining the high standards of quality, service, and consistency that our restaurant is known for.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan menus, estimate food and labour costs, and order food supplies to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Prepare food from scratch based on individual customer orders, ensuring freshness and quality in every dish.
  • Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.
  • Collaborate with Managers, kitchen staff, waiting staff, and address dietary requirements to ensure exceptional service.
  • Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise kitchen staff on procedures to maintain high culinary standards.
  • Ensure that hygiene and food safety regulations are adhered to in the kitchen.
  • Select, train, and mentor kitchen staff to ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen.
  • Freeze and preserve food when required to ensure product quality and shelf life.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and ensure that all safety regulations are followed.

Skill & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Chef with at least 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Possession of a relevant qualifications, such as Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent).
  • A strong knowledge of Mexican cuisine and traditional cooking methods.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong leadership skills to train and manage kitchen staff.
  • Food safety and handling skills are essential.
  • Eligible to work in Australia (e.g., Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Visa holder with full working rights).
