Key Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Employing the first principles method to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Designing structural elements such as foundations, retaining walls, and drainage systems with a thorough understanding of codes and regulations.
  • Taking responsibility for the structural design of residential houses and townhouses, as well as non-standard custom structures requiring unique and specific structural solutions.
  • Utilizing specialized structural engineering software, including Inducta SLB, Space Gass, and Tekla, to accurately model parameters and analyze structural integrity.
  • Preparing necessary documents and certificates for submission at various project stages, such as construction and occupancy permits.
  • Coordinating with other professionals including architects, surveyors, contractors, and clients, to ensure smooth project execution.

Skill & Experience

  • Conducting site investigations and feasibility studies to determine the best engineering solutions for projects.
  • Supervising construction projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and relevant regulations.
  • Performing risk assessments and implementing mitigation strategies to address potential project challenges.
  • Developing and reviewing technical reports, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Mentoring junior staff, allocating project tasks, and providing technical direction to the engineering and drafting team to ensure strict quality control.
  • Leading technical meetings and liaising directly with builders, architects, and external consultants to negotiate design variations and quickly resolve complex site queries.

 

Skills and Experience

  • A Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering is essential, alongside a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum three to four years of post-qualification professional experience in structural engineering.
  • Expert skills in structural analysis, modeling, and detailing software, specifically Space Gass, Inducta SLB, and Tekla.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Australian Standards: AS1170, AS3600, AS4100, AS4600, AS2870, AS1684, AS4055, AS4678.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, along with outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work onsite.
